Susanna G. Brundrett was born on the 16th of April 1937 in Berlin, Germany, and passed away on the 25th of July 2012 after a three-year battle with cancer, which she faced with unbelievable courage and a cheerful, positive spirit. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeffrey Daniels; and her husband and the love of her life, George Brundrett.
Susanna met George in London and immediately knew it was love at first sight and that they were destined to be together. George introduced her to Texas where they married in 1988 and enjoyed 21 wonderful years together, filled with happiness and complete adoration for one another.
George and Susanna were inseparable. They loved cruises and traveled all over the world, including crossing the Atlantic on the QEII. They were avid Texas Longhorn fans and held season tickets on the 50-yard line for many years. They enjoyed tennis, entertaining friends and family in their home, and loved to dine out in Houston. Susanna loved to entertain during the holidays and especially enjoyed preparing traditional German fare to share with her grandchildren.
Susanna’s greatest passion was for classical music. She was thrilled to share her passion for the arts with her grandchildren and delighted in taking them to concerts. She and George were active supporters of the Houston Symphony, the Houston Grand Opera, the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, and the Texas Music Festival.
Susanna was kind and generous and was always willing to give of herself to causes that she believed in, whether through donations or volunteering her time. She was always busy and loved to support activities that benefited others.
Susanna was a devoted member of the Houston Symphony League for 24 years. She served on the League board from 1991 until 2012 on numerous committees. One of her favorite activities was the orchestra/staff luncheon, for which she served as chairman for a decade. She provided beautiful decorations for the Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition for 20 years.
Susanna chaired the orchestra staff parties, served as Vice President of the Houston Post Supplement, and most recently co-chaired the League's B Sharp Brunches. She also served as a trustee of the Houston Symphony Society.
Susanna and George were ardent supporters of the University of Houston's Moores School of Music, and could be seen at most of the school's concerts. In 2010, Susanna received the Immanuel and Helen Olshan Award for Vision, Leadership and Commitment for her work as a chairman of the weekly concert series held each June. Through her tireless efforts, Susanna raised nearly $400,000 for the festival.
Susanna will be deeply missed by her loving brother, Peter Skroch, of Berlin, Germany, with whom she shared a very close relationship; her daughter, Jan Daniels; son-in-law, Paul Daniels; and her grandchildren, Nick, Joey and Avery Daniels; her many friends; and her beloved cat, Mr. Blackey.
The family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to her close friend and neighbor, Bobbie Antalffy, for her kindness, devotion and friendship to Susanna.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 31st of July, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The funeral service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 1st of August, in the Founders Chapel of Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane at the Sam Houston Tollway in Houston, where Rev. Jane Pettit, Congregational Life Pastor, is to officiate.
The interment is to follow at half-past three o’clock in the afternoon, also on Wednesday, in Rockport, Texas, where friends are invited to gather with the family for the graveside service to be conducted in the “old section” of the Rockport Cemetery, 1809 Bayshore Drive. Rev. Scott Jones, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Rockport, is to officiate.
Honored to serve as casket bearers during Wednesday’s services are Les Antalffy, Joey Daniels, Nick Daniels, Paul Daniels, Henry Lieberman, and Rex Moser.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests contributions in Susanna’s memory be directed to the Moores School of Music and the Texas Music Festival, University of Houston Foundation, 4543 Post Oak Pl., Suite 250 Houston, TX, 77027; or to the Houston Symphony, 615 Louisiana St., Houston, TX, 77002.
