Syble Christine Curlee went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 6, 2023. She was born on September 5, 1918, in Limestone County Alabama to parents John Spencer Hughes and Susie Hasting Hughes. Syble worked at various jobs over the years, she managed a store, ran her own store, and managed to work a farm in her free time.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin Curlee of 39 years, her brothers Zelia Hughes, Malie Hughes, Raymond Hughes, Nineveh Hughes, and Harry Hughes. She is survived by her son, John Curlee and wife Shirley of Spring, TX, granddaughter Lindsey Curlee and fiancé Chester McKnight of Spring, TX.
She was a member of the Dorcus Wells Baptist Church in Trinity Texas, and she had a passion for helping people. In her free time up until the age of 99, she would go to the Avalon Place Retirement Home, in Trinity, Texas and help other patients that were a lot younger than her. She had a strong will and was young at heart.
Her passion in life was loving the Lord and telling everyone about the great things that he has done in her life. If you came to her house, you could expect two things: a good home cooked meal and a sermon.
Pallbearers: Chester McKnight, John Brand, Demetrius Anagnostopoulos, Stephen Anagnostopoulos, Larry Sarchett and Tommy Wood.
Special thanks to her daughter-in-law Shirley Curlee for being her caregiver for the past five-years, also special thanks to Cindy Brand, Shirley’s sister for caring for her also.
The family will receive friends for visitation Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM in the Family Chapel at Brookside Funeral Home, at 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039 followed by a burial at Brookside Memorial Park.
