Sylvia F. Morris, 80, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 30, 2015. Sylvia was born on June 10, 1934 in Rayne, Louisiana. Preceded in death by her parents Fernest and Florence Faulk and her eldest daughter, Tracey Ellen, she is survived by her loving and devoted husband Jeffery V.N. Morris; daughter Anne Elizabeth (Beth) Hosker and husband Philip; daughter Sally Harle and husband Bascom; grandson Stark Hunter Harle; brother Norman Faulk; sister Selma Blanchard and husband Hubert; sister Evelyn Siewert and husband Bob; sisters-in-law Joyce Faulk, Beverly Faulk and Martha Dick; three generations of nieces and nephews and extended family.
Sylvia and Jeff met at a wedding on the LSU campus 60 years ago, were engaged a few short months later and wed on October 30, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rayne, Louisiana. Theirs was a love story that endured many highs and lows throughout their 59 years but it was a love everlasting.
Her primary occupation when her girls were young was homemaker; volunteering at the elementary school, her daughters’ Girl Scout troops and shuttling them to various sports activities, with a monthly bridge game to keep her sane. She was active in the Houston Geological Society Auxiliary for many years, serving as President from 1984-1985. When her youngest daughter entered high school, Sylvia went to work for M. David Lowe Staffing on a part time basis to earn a little “mad money”. This transitioned to full time when her girls were in college. She officially “retired” in the fall of 1993 with the approaching birth of her beloved grandson. Sylvia was determined to be available to pitch in at a moment’s notice and an office job would certainly interfere with trips to the zoo and museums.
Sylvia enjoyed a full life and touched the hearts of many through her travels all over the continental U.S., Europe, Hawaii and cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska, always with a book of crossword puzzles at hand.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and other caregivers at Clarewood House Extended care facility and Grace Hospice who treated her with respect, love and kindness.
A visitation for Sylvia will be Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 6-8 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. A service celebrating her life will be Thursday, February 5, 2015 in the chapel of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home at 12:30PM. Concluding services Sylvia will be laid to rest at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Following the burial, the family will host a reception at The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch from 2:30-4:30PM. In honor of Sylvia please make memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Make-a-Wish Foundation of the Texas Gulf Coast.
