Taysir Butrous Sisan, son of Butrous and Nabeeha Sisan, born August 5, 1942, left this earth to be with our heavenly father on June 22, 2022, after many years of suffering from Parkinson’s. We are eternally grateful for his strength and perseverance. He always pushed through until there was simply no possible way to keep going.
Taysir grew up in Aboud, Palestine. He was a carpenter by trade. Taysir came to the United States in 1969 to surprise his wife to be. Taysir had asked Elaine’s father permission to marry his daughter three times before her father agreed, but by the third time, she had already left for the United States to escape the occupation and start a new life in the US with her brothers and sisters. Taysir surprised Elaine with his arrival in the United States, calling her from a payphone at the airport in Boston, Massachusetts, asking her to come and pick him up. They were married just a few short weeks later and they celebrated 51 years of marriage this past September. The date inscribed in Taysir’s wedding ring is the date Elaine’s father finally agreed Taysir could have her hand in marriage.
Taysir and Elaine remained in Massachusetts for 27 years. They raised a family and made a life for themselves. Taysir worked as a carpenter and furniture refinisher for the Boston Park Plaza Hotel for 21 years. He was a devoted father and husband as he and his wife shared duties at home, both working shifts to make sure one of them was always home with their boys. He attended every sporting event of his son’s and laced more hockey skates than one could imagine. He paced up and down the ice, coaching his kids from the sidelines at every game. He loudly shared his opinions with the Boston Bruins from his side of the television as well.
In 1997, the family moved to Houston, Texas. Taysir and his sons went into business together and started a new chapter in all of their lives with, “the building”. The entire family spent many weekends at the building improving the property. Taysir had the work ethic of a true immigrant, never expecting the easy road, always willing to put in the work, with the desire to make the next generation better. He also taught us the art of enjoying the small pleasures in life. An afternoon at the beach with the family, a good barbeque, a glass of whiskey at the end of a long day, and Arabic music to top it off. This year was his 25th year in Texas.
No matter how hard his battle with Parkinson’s, he always pushed through it, with his fiercely devoted wife by his side, making sure he was living life to the fullest for as long as possible. We are eternally grateful for Elaine’s strength. She literally added years to Taysir’s life, the love of her life. There was never a day that Taysir did not get up, get dressed, have breakfast, and be ready for the day, no matter what the day was to bring. Whether it was a visit with family, a day at the building, a trip to the doctor, or to just to sit on the back porch and look out at the garden and his beautiful olive tree. We will always remember Taysir’s smile, his laugh, his genuine peacefulness, and his perseverance. May a part of Taysir carry on in each of us as we honor his memory.
Taysir is survived by his loving and devoted wife Elaine, his two sons, Peter Taysir and his wife Luna, and Nader (Ned) Taysir and his wife Brooke, and his four grandson’s, Tony Taysir, Matthew Peter, Tyler John and Jeffrey Taysir, all residing in Katy, Texas. Taysir is survived by his dear sister Widad Saleh who resides in Amman Jordan. Taysir is survived by countless loving nieces and nephews in Massachusetts, Texas, California, Jordan and Aboud, all who fondly call him Amo.
