Terry is survived by Marion, his wife of 54 years, and three daughters, Susan Gallagher and husband Andy Durham, Diane Haupt and husband John Haupt, Gwenn Gallagher and Husband Bill McCann, and five grandchildren Andrew Gallagher Durham, Margaret Durham, Allison Vaughn, Cait McCann and Meghan McCann, and by his sister Bernadette Jordan.
Terry was born to an Irish immigrant family, the first of his siblings to be born in this country. His life very much reflects “The American Story”. The family arrived as strangers in a strange land. They worked and grew and prospered through hard work and perseverance.
Early in his school days in Brooklyn it was always important to have that extra job to help out his family of eight. That hard work was reflected as he prepared for a career in the business world. His colorful youth as a Brooklyn “tough guy”, included the moniker “Irish Terry”, the title given to him as a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion.
He worked his way up from laboring as a longshoreman on the docks of New York, through the ranks of a trucking company and a steamship company, to become an executive in international shipping. He became a world wide traveler, but always enjoyed coming home the most.
It was important to Terry to be a good provider for Marion and his girls. He was a strong and faithful husband. He was determined to make his family’s life better than the hard life he had. He was a man of strong principle and lived his life true to his values without faltering, passing on his strength to his family. He took great pride in the growth and successes of his girls. They were the joy of his life.
