Terry Chau
07/21/1948 - 07/01/2025
With great sadness, Terry Chau passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2025. Born July 21, 1948 in Dallas, TX, he was truly someone special. A Sam Houston High School graduate and Fighting Texas Aggie, Class of 1971, Terry retired from Houston Light & Power after 34 years as Engineering Supervisor. He was a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League licensed as KA5CFG and a member of the VHF/FM Society, ever ready to criss-cross the country to partake in the annual ham radio conferences. Terry was content in retirement having visited all 50 states and over 40 countries while awaiting his next Caribbean sail, cruise and frequent gatherings with family, close friends and co-workers.
He is survived by sisters Linda Payne and Monica Chau, brothers-in-law Stephen Payne and Brian Reid, nephews Geoffrey (Carly) Payne and Alexander (Solmayra) Payne, grandnephew Johnny Payne and grandniece Betty Payne who knew him as Buncle Berry. He was preceded in death by parents Moon Fong Chau and Mee Siu Seto and brother Glen Chau. Terry's extended family included his "adopted" family: Lance and Debbie Rumfield, godsons Timmy and Danny Rumfield, Chester and Laurie Kowalick, Kyle and Brenda Laffoon, and Mike Taylor. Terry touched so many lives and with a generous heart, he was always present to help. Anyone fortunate enough to have met Terry was lucky indeed. He will be greatly missed by many.
No services will be held, nor any flowers or gifts are required. Terry wished to have his ashes spread among the seas. A private family service will be held to honor Terry's life.
