Terry was born in Odessa, Texas on July 18, 1953. He attended elementary school in Odessa where he had many memories of happy times. When he was in the 7th grade, the family moved to Houston, Texas. At first the move was not easy, leaving a small town where the neighbors knew each other. However, Terry made new friends at Stovall Junior High, and those friendships continued through to Aldine High School. Terry lived in the Hidden Valley neighborhood and formed lifelong friendships there with Joe Blanco, Bernie White, Aaron Saenz, Robert Mize, and others.
After graduating from Aldine High School, Terry joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed at McChord AFB, Washington, and his primary specialty was Command Control Specialist.
Following Terry’s military service, he attended Lone Star College, where he earned a degree in accounting. He began working in telecommunications at companies including MCA. Eventually he started work at the Houston Veterans Hospital and retired after many years.
Terry’s gentle and loving mannerisms endeared him to a host of friends wherever he worked and lived.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister Karen Strachan and husband David, beloved niece Tracy Crist and husband Dwane, and their three children Connor, Katelyn, and Caroline. As well as his 92 year old uncle Gerald Campbell, of Louisiana, and his children, cousins Peggy Swetlege, Bill Campbell, Connie Arvin, and Linda May. Along with his late Aunt Juanita, of Texas, and her children, cousins Sandra Grant, Kenneth Grant, and Joey DeRusha, and many dear relatives. As well as many friends, the next door neighbor, Linda Jones, where Terry Lived over the last few years.
We know that you are not gone away, you have gone before us. His mom and dad, Melba and Terry Holmes, and brother David Holmes, Eternal Rest Grant Them Oh Lord.
May our hearts be filled with wonderful memories of great times shared.
A memorial service will be held on January 7, 2019 at 10:30 am in the chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038 with a reception to follow from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. A committal service with military honors will take place following the reception at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
