Thelma Marcelous Harvey was born on December 19, 1925, in Houston, Texas to the union of Irvin Sr. and Cecelia (LeBlanc) Marcelous. She was one of three children born to this union and is preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond and Irvin Marcelous.
Thelma (affectionately known as Darling) grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School. She worked various jobs as a seamstress and nurse’s assistant while raising her three children: Lois, Sheila, and Melvin.
Thelma loved to cook and sew and was incredibly good at both. She was patient in teaching her grandchildren her skills in the kitchen and sewing room. Her oldest grandchild gave her the name Darling as that was what she used to call her so much that Yolanda thought that was Thelma’s given name. And so, a tradition began…. that lasted until her death.
She accepted Christ in mid-life at Law Memorial C.O.G.I.C and soon met her future husband, Deacon William Harvey. They were married for 37 years until his death at 105 years old in 2015.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers and two of her children, Lois and Melvin. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Sheila Fisher (Charles), and her grandchildren Yolanda Henderson (Kevin), Melvin Moody Jr., Charlotte Newsom (Tavarus), Rebekah Fisher, and Tamara Colbert.
She lived to see five generations within her family before her mother passed away in 2002. She leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Justin Henderson, Kara Henderson, Kendall Henderson, Brayden Moody, Kaydence Moody, Kingston Moody, Kennedy Fisher, Avery Newsom, Aubrey Newsom, Sanai Williams, Braylon Colbert, Landon Colbert, and Tatum Colbert. Additionally, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Thelma went to be with the Lord on June 17, 2022, and frequently remarked that the Lord would never leave her or forsake her. May He welcome her into His arms and say, ‘well done, my good and faithful servant.’
A visitation for Thelma will be held Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Laws Memorial Church of God, 4807 Wayne Street, Houston, TX 77026, followed by a celebration of life from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
