

Therese Anne “Terry” Mackie, age 88, received her Heavenly promotion on April 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 21, 1936, the firstborn of the late Myra (Jokerst) and Vernon Albaugh. In 1954, she married her former husband, Gerald “Jerry” Strohmaier, and had four sons, Gerald “Jay,” Richard, Gary, and Timothy. She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education on June 19, 1973, and a Master of Elementary Education on December 11, 1980, from Wayne State University in Detroit. She moved to Texas in 1981 and met her husband, James “Jim” B. Mackie. They married on May 28, 1983. Together, they traveled the world and built a life full of love, laughter, and precious memories.
Terry was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, friend, and loving mentor to many. She is survived by her sons, Richard Strohmaier (Robin) and Timothy Strohmaier (Julie), step-children Robyn Impero (Jim), Laura Bolerjack (Doug), Scott Mackie (Madelyn), eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, her sister, Susan Kueber, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Mackie; her sons, Jay Strohmaier and Gary Strohmaier; her sister, Mary Mullen; her daughter-in-law, Pam Strohmaier; and her granddaughter, Tammi Strohmaier.
Terry enjoyed her career as an elementary teacher in Clawson, Michigan, and Houston, Texas. She loved traveling, going to the opera, theater, art museums, playing bridge, and being with family. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas.
The family would like to thank Rose Bashir, her caregiver, the Hospice staff, and the staff at The Hallmark Extended Care in Houston for their loving and compassionate care.
Terry’s legacy is one of strength, perseverance, and an endless capacity for hope and love.
Terry will be laid to rest at Mountain View Memorial in Boulder, Colorado, next to her husband, Jim, and son, Jerry, Friday, May 2, 2025.
Mom’s memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Methodist church on June 14, from 11am to 12am. St. Luke’s is located at 3471 Westheimer Rd, Houston TX 77027. Following the service, a reception will be held at Los Tios Mexican Restaurant located at 5161 San Felipe St, Houston, TX 77056.
