Thomas Ray Hughes

Throughout his life, Thomas (Tommy to mostly everyone) enjoyed the outdoor life. AS he grew, he enjoyed the great American pastimes of baseball and football, as well, as the quiet outdoor sports of fishing and deer hunting.

His early years saw him joining the Navy which gave him an opportunity to see the world outside of Corinth. Eventually, he, along with his Mother and Sisters (Katheryn and Sherry) moved to Texas and life post-service began. Tommy eventually married and had two children, Theresa and Truman (Butch).

In the 1970’s he began learning the trade of Carpet Installation and Flooring with the eye of one day starting his own carpet company. Eventually, he married his wife Barbara, and they established Thomas R. Hughes Carpet Company and Tommy became one of the premiere flooring installers in the city of Houston.

In the 1990’s, he joined the Masonic Brotherhood and quickly earned “The Sublime Degree of Master Mason” on May 23rd, 1992.

Tommy was preceded in death by his Mother (Mildred Wagner) and his sister Katheryn. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his children Theresa and Truman, and his stepson Eugene Kato.

A visitation for Thomas will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A funeral service will occur Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A committal service will occur Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 12:45 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10401 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
