Thomas Joseph Mueller was born on February 8, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Laurence John and Louise Agnes Zimmerman Mueller. He lived in several different parts of the country growing up, and graduated in 1949 from St. John’s High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. Shortly afterwards, his family moved to Houston, and Tom attended the University of Houston from 1949-1950.
Tom served proudly in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. After his honorable discharge, he entered the University of Texas at Austin in the fall of 1955. Tom graduated from the University of Texas in 1958 with a business degree. Tom worked at Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Company for 30 years, retiring in 1995.
Tom was an avid golfer, and a master woodworker. Furniture-making was his specialty, and he made many pieces of beautiful furniture for his children and grandchildren over the years. He was a faithful member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church for over 50 years, where he served on the parish council and was a member of the choir. Tom was also a Boy Scout leader of Troop 606 (Bellaire Presbyterian Church) for 16 years. He made many trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and to Colorado, hiking and backpacking.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Louise Mueller, 2 grandchildren, Emily and William Adkison, brother James Mueller, and brothers-in-law Dr. Keith Schmitt and Robert Goodman. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Ann Schmitt Mueller. Also surviving are his children: daughter, Mary Hansen (Mark) and children Meg, Molly, Matthew, and Mallory; son, Michael Mueller (Kim); son, Mark Mueller (Maryanne); son, Matthew Mueller (Lisa) and children Nicholas, Ellie, and George; daughter, Martha Adkison (Michael) and children Sara, Thomas, Katie, John, and Anna; son, Timothy Mueller (Janis) and children Cameron, Jack, Kathleen, and Julianne; son, Thomas Mueller (Kelly) and children Andrew, Samuel, Caroline, and Christopher; daughter Theresa Richardson (Brink) and children Madeline, Melanie, Brinkley, Braden, and Bryce; son, James Mueller (Jen) and child, Hadley; and daughter, Jennifer Buechler (Adam) and children Lauren, Megan, Matthew, and Walker. Also survived by sister, Lois Goodman, her children Kathy, Lisa, Lynne, and Beth; sister-in-law, Ann Mueller and children Paul, Suzy, Jeanne, Stephanie and Claire; sister-in-law Jeannine Schmitt Washburn (Bill), and children John, Maggie, Michael, Mary, Patrick, Joseph, and Andrew; sister-in-law Nina Schmitt, and children Jimmy, Linda, David, Cynthia, and Richard.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Advantage Funeral Home, 7010 Chetwood Dr. Houston, Texas 77081. A Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy GHost Catholic Church, 6921 Chetwood Dr. Houston, Texas 77081. Interment will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
