

He was born in Washington, Missouri on May 6, 1943, son of the late Thomas and Georgia Officer and was preceded in death by his eldest sister LaDonna.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, sister Patricia, son Thomas and wife Tiffany, daughter Carmela, grandchildren Tristan, Taylor, and Kirby, great grand daughter, nieces and nephews. Tom was affectionately known as ‘Brother’ to senior family members and “Uncle Bud” to his nieces and nephews.
As a native of Missouri, he graduated from Washington High School and attended Missouri University graduating in Liberal Arts. As a basketball player for Washington High school, he was honored at their 50th year anniversary reunion for the highest points scored in a single game. He served in the United States Military and Foreign Service traveling throughout all of Europe playing basketball. On his return home he was employed as a Systems Analyst at IBM and later years worked for the United States Postal Service.
Tom was an avid reader who had an extensive collection of books including recipes that enhanced his culinary skills (everyone loved his delicious Key lime pies). He enjoyed fishing, boating, photography, traveling with a very adventurous spirit and was a lifelong sports fan of basket ball and football especially the Washington Red Skins (now known as the Commanders).
A visitation for Thomas will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A funeral service will occur Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A committal service will occur Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
Pallbearers are Kevin Wilson, Kenneth Thomas, Thomas Officer (Tae), Andre Thomas, Tristan Officer and Kirby Hatchett. Honorary Pallbearer is Andrew Rhodd.
