Tillie L. Dominguez went to be with the Lord on April 03,2024 at the age of 96 surrounded by the love of her children. She inspired all in the family with her love, generosity, care and cooking. Raised in Houston Texas, Tillie was born on December 13, 1927, to Jose Maria & Maria Elena Herrera. She would be one of nine children in the family. The Herrera family has lived in Cottage Grove for over 95+ years. Tillie was educated at Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary school and graduated from Sam Houston High in 1945. Tillie was introduced to Jim P. Dominguez, who would later serve with the US Marine Corp in the Korean War. Once he returned home, they married on March 25, 1951. Together, they had seven children: Jim (Aida), Liz (Matthew), Robert, Richard (Theresa), Teresa (George), Joseph (Laura) and Herlinda (John). Tillie was a stay-at-home mom and wife for several years, caring and managing her household in true Tillie fashion. A lover of sewing, a baker and gardener, Tillie’s days were filled with caring for her family. In 1967, Tillie’s life changed course. She re-entered the workforce and ultimately retired from American General Companies in 1989 with no absences or tardies. While working full-time, Tillie continued to raise her children and soon, grandchildren. Over the years, many grandchildren (16) and great-grandchildren (36) were added to the family. Tillie was a creator. Her most joyful experiences in life included tending her garden, reading, quilting, cooking, pickling and crafting. Most of all, Tillie enjoyed spending quality time with her family. Tillie was known as a ‘walking encyclopedia’ who knew more about places in the world she never visited than her own children and grandchildren who traveled the globe. Although she did not graduate from college or travel abroad during her life, Tillie gained many ‘honorary’ degrees through her avid reading and regularly watching PBS shows on history, travel and home improvement.
Tillie is preceded by her parents, husband, her siblings (6) and her grandchild, Rachel
Dominguez. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings:
Margaret and Victoria Herrera and many nieces and nephews.
