

On the evening of Sunday, March 16, 2025, Tiney Lee Taylor, aged 92, left us to be with the Lord. At the time of her death, she had been a three year resident of Memory Care Suites in Katy, Texas. She was born in Kinder, Louisiana and moved with her mother at the age of one year old, to Baytown, Texas where she attended grade school and college. In the late 60’s she moved to Houston. She had one son, Danny Lee Riggs.
Tiney’s hobbies were reading, crocheting, Brazilian embroidery, and gardening.
Her career in insurance began at Herbert Insurance Agency in Baytown, Texas in the 1950’s. She continued working in insurance when she moved to Houston in the 1960’s.
She was a member of the National Association of Insurance Woman of Houston, having held all the offices. She was voted Insurance Woman of The Year in 1996 and again in 1997. One of her favorite offices held, was Finance Director. Her duties were to hold fund raising events to finance their scholarship programs. Tiney organized and taught a beloved public speaking class.
Tiney was a Lifetime Member of The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1992 of Katy, Texas.
Tiney took pride in saying she was a people person. She loved volunteering. In the 1980’s and 1990’s she volunteered at The Brookshire Nursing Home where her father Joe Baker was a resident at the time. She was elected President of their Family Counsel because of the encouragement of her special friend Evelyn Bolds the Activities Director.
In the 1980’s and 1990’s Tiney volunteered with another nursing home group called USA2K, United Senior Advocates 2K in Houston.
Tiney loved the Lord, her family, friends and her Church Family. She was a faithful member of the Clay Road Baptist Church in Houston.
Her surviving family are her sister, Kitty R. (Rose) Aylor, nephew, Rollan K. Aylor, his wife Donna and children Sydney and Kyle Harwell. Neice Rachelle C. Henderson her husband, Keith and children Trey Henderson his wife, Baighlor and child Suede, Sierra Veerasingam her husband, Soma. Neice, Tammy Shamblin husband, Don Shamblin.
Preceeding in death are her son Danny Lee Riggs, mother, Rosie Mae Newman, her father Joe G. Baker and her sister Priscilla Hutson.
The Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Clay Road Baptist Church Chapel, 9151 Clay Rd., Houston, Tx. 77080.
