

She was born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma on May 17, 1927 to Earl and Illa Stewart.
She was married to her high school sweetheart, James Marshall Mitchell (Mitch) for 58 years.
Towanna worked for Oklahoma City Telephone Company as a Supervisor, she worked as a Real Estate Agent in Houston, she was an administrative assistant, she taught preschool at West University Baptist church, and was an excellent Mother.
She was a member of Westbury Methodist Church in Houston, West University Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church Westchase, and The Lakeway Church in Austin.
Tee had a passion for crafts and sewing projects. She was a Girl Scout leader for Terri’s troop. She was Team Mother for Westbury National Little League. She bowled, had a tomato garden, and loved to play cards and dominoes. She listened to Andrea Bocelli and Big Band music. She was a huge Houston Astros fan, and enjoyed watching Incredible Dr. Pol. She was a “Rockette” at the Telephone Company’s annual party. She was inspiration for having photos taken in her bathing suit in the snow.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, “Mitch”, whom she took very good care of for 5 years after his stroke. She was the remaining family member between the Stewart’s and the Mitchell’s.
She was a proud Native American Indian of the Chickasaw Tribe and her Chickasaw name was “Laughing Song”, which described her very well, as she loved to laugh and she loved music. She played the Clarinet in her High School Marching band. She was a member of the Prime Time Singers at West University Baptist Church.
She was a “Fur” grandparent to Buster, Sage, Mocha, Madison, Traff, Winston, Sophie, Lulu, Chippy and Ruger.
She is survived by her daughter Terri Lyn Mitchell and her husband Richard Scadden; and her son, Jimmy Earl Mitchell. She has left behind Nieces Antoinette Zeider and her husband Jeff, Niece Davi Lynch and her husband Ray, Melinda Davis and her husband Bill; Nephew Les Stewart and his wife Linda, Chester Lee Davis and his wife Joann, Bud Stewart and his Karen, David Johnson and his wife Karen. She has left behind many great nieces: Monti McMillan, Joyce Williams, Lesa Young; great nephews Brad Stewart, Derek Camann, Josh Rapp, and many more great, great, nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
A visitation for Towanna will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A funeral service will follow, starting at 2:00 PM. A committal service will occur following the service at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
