Trellis Moses was born on October 21, 1953, in Houston, Texas, to Wade Moses and Artie Lee Gants. He was the oldest of nine children. Trellis was raised in the Studewood/Heights area and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1973, where he played football and was a proud member of the school band.
Trellis accepted Christ at an early age and later united with St. James Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served in the music ministry. In later years, he and his family joined Living Word Fellowship Church under the leadership of Dr. Paul Cannings.
In August of 1989, Trellis met the love of his life, Miranda Lilly. They were united in holy matrimony on February 6, 1995. From this union, their daughter, Zandia Tamar Moses, was born. Trellis also lovingly welcomed and raised his stepdaughter, Tamil Lilly, as his own.
Trellis began his professional career as a young adult with the Maritime Association ILA #28, where he worked diligently in various roles, including Reefer Mechanic, Pencil Operator, and Walking Foreman. He also served on the board of the Port of Houston Federal Credit Union until his retirement on January 1, 2019.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Trellis loved fishing and hunting. Much of his free time was spent as close to the water as possible, always with his rod and reel primed and ready in the back of his truck. In addition to his love for the outdoors, Trellis was an exceptional cook. From barbecue to seafood, he had a special way of satisfying the soul through a meal.
Trellis was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Artie Lee Moses, and his sisters, Bernadette Moses and Genetha Moses.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 30 years, Miranda Moses; his children, Zandia Moses, Lucretia Moses, Trellis Moses, Jr. (Phalicia), Charin Moses; and his stepdaughter, Tamil Lilly. He is also survived by his siblings: Wallace Moses (Nerissa), Gavlon Moses (Janice), Eulaten Moses (Danielle), Donald Moses, Janith Williams (Kelvin), Prela Moses, Ferrence Moses (Aquanilla), and Loretta Dean Moses; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
Trellis made friends wherever he went and touched countless lives through his kindness and generosity. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
