

Velma Villena Barin, age 74, of Katy, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021. She walked into heaven, peacefully and whole with those she loved most by her side. While we will miss her dearly, her family rejoices that she is at peace and reunited with the Lord and her sweet Janine.
Velma was born in Gapan, Nueve Ecija, Philippines to Victoria and Felipe Samson on December 22,1946. She had big aspirations at a young age and often dreamed of serving others which led her to graduate from Southwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She met the love of her life, Benjamin B. Barin Jr. when she moved to Chicago to live out her dreams as a Registered Nurse and married on March 10,1978. During their time together, they were blessed with three children Janine, Maribel, and Benjamin III as well as, sharing her motherly love with her niece and nephew Heidi and Benito Jr.
Velma proudly retired from the Michael E. DeBakey Veteran's Affair Medical Center to devote her time to her beloved family and her health. Though Velma's health was challenging, she never lost her faith, smile, or perseverance to fight. She spent many happy days devoting her time as a loving mother, dedicated wife, and a servant leader to the Lord. She had a love for morning talks with her beloved husband, cooking, daytime TV, family dinners, her Catholic faith, and spending time with her best companion Baxter. Her smile, loud laughter, and loving nature left an everlasting impression on many and she will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Victoria and Felipe Samson and daughter; Janine Barin. Survivors include Husband: Benjamin B. Barin Jr.; daughter: Maribel Barin; son: Benjamin A. Barin III (Leticia); Niece: Heidi Feese (Ely); Nephew: Benito Barin Jr. (Maegan); honorary grandchildren: Everett Feese and Benito Barin III; fur babies: Baxter and Ogie; brother: Ricardo Samson; sister: Teresa Villena and many beloved loved ones.
A visitation with family & friends for Velma will be held Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. A rosary & funeral service will occur Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 11:30 AM, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. A committal service will occur Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 12:30 PM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
