She met W.G. Pratt in Houston, TX and later they were married on December 29, 1955. Velva truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she loved gardening.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Florence Smith; father, Tommie Smith; brother, Johnny Smith.
