

Born in Chappell Hill, Texas, on November 5, 1927, Verna lived a long and fulfilling life. She had a deep passion for gardening and loved to showcase her yard and flowers to visitors. An avid painter, she enjoyed decorating items in her garden with her artistic touch. Verna spent much of her career at St. Regis Plastics Company in Houston. After retiring, she dedicated her time to providing home care for elderly individuals. She was also fond of playing dominoes and darts, enjoying a beer, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends at the Rose Garden. She loved dogs, especially Selena.
Verna is survived by her sons, Larry Skweres and his wife Judy Skweres, and Mikel Skweres; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Skweres; as well as numerous grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and Alex Gurka; her husband, Charlie Skweres; and her sons, Richard Skweres and Patrick Skweres.
A visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM, at The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 4918 Cochran Street, Houston, Texas 77009. A rite of committal will follow immediately at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77077.
