Vernon Howard Tyger III died January 13, 2017. He was born December 23, 1959 in State College, Pennsylvania, to Vernon and Delores Tyger. A proponent of education, he attended Spring High School, then pursued his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas, graduate degree from Houston Baptist University and earned professional certifications as a CPA, CSM, PMP. For 20 years, Vernon worked at the Apache Corporation then as President and Owner of Advantage Travel. Always active, Vernon enjoyed a variety of interests ranging from billiards to motorcycles, basketball, photography, fundraising and home restoration.
His passion was sharing his heart and talents by serving others. He was an active member of Houston’s First Baptist Church, pouring his heart into countless ministries throughout the church including helping to lead Men’s Serve for Widows, Car Care and Widower’s Ministry. Vernon’s boundless energy impacted countless organizations including the Houston Rodeo, MS 150, Southside Volunteer Fire Fighters, A Warriors Heart and Generation to Generation Mentoring, West University Rotary Club, Outback Texas Ministry and the youth of North Central Baptist. One of his greatest joys carried him on international trips for Mike Eden Missions in Africa to build orphanages. He was an all-around handy man who used his gifts for anyone in need.
Devoted to his family, he is survived by his wife Lynn (Guy) Tyger, daughter Carol and son Paul, mother Delores Raymond Tyger, sisters Sheryl Kelly and Karen Tyger Fisher.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Cristina Fernandez Tyger and father Vernon Howard Tyger, Jr.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 17 at Earthman Hunters Creek Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM with a memorial service Wednesday, January 18 at 10:00 AM at Houston’s First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Houston’s First Baptist Missions for either Mike Eden Ministries of Africa or North Central Baptist Church.
