

Versell Dewhart was born June 12, 1943 to Arlee Dewhart, Sr. And Carrie Carroll Dewhart in Shreveport, Louisiana. Both parents preceded him in death. Accepting Christ at an early age, Versell was baptized at Union Spring Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jospeh E. Martin.
Versell attended public school in Caddo Parish, Shreveport, LA., later serving in the US Army Reserve. Upon moving to Houston, TX, he worked at Weingarten’s and Safeway stores in charge of the produce section. Versell later used the skills he learned from different trade schools to work for himself as a contractor in carpentry, roofing, plumbing, cabinet making, and remodeling until his health began to fail him.
Versell is survived by his daughters Vernice A. Perry and Vertrice M. Perry of Arlington, TX. He leaves behind a son, Myron Pruitt of Houston, TX. Additionally, he is survived by three (3) brothers: Arlee Dewhart, Jr., Jospeh E. Dewhart (Olivia), and David Dewhart. Both sisters, Rosie D. Somerville and Jewery B. Whitaker (Ernest) preceded him in death. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to cherish his memory.
A visitation for Versell will be held Friday, January 14, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Paradise Funeral Home, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 14, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A committal service will occur Friday, January 14, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
