Inang Victoria was born on August 17, 1934 to Mr. Alejandro Sagun and Mrs. Anastacia Macabio-Sagun in Salvacion, Rosales, Pangasinan, Philippines. She was one of 8 girls born in this union. She is survived by her youngest sister, Maria Sagun Sardenia.
She was married to her dear husband, Dominador Acoba, who preceded her at death on September 23, 2003. They were blessed with 4 children—one son and three daughters, namely: Jesse Acoba, Tessie Acoba-Lugo (deceased), Yolanda Acoba-Bangloy, and Esmeralda Acoba-Baysa. She has 15 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.
Our Inang Turing, as she is fondly called, was passionate about helping her husband raise their children in love, warmth, and kindness. Despite being a busy mother, she was also a hard-working entrepreneur, putting up her own business in the Tumauini Public Market as a merchant. Along with her “Sari-Sari Store,” she and her husband established a tailoring shop named after their eldest – Jess Tailoring Shop. Because of her business legacy, three of her grandchildren followed her footsteps and are now running their own businesses in Tumauini, Isabela, in addition to their own professions in life.
Inang Turing and her husband came to the U.S in 1999 to visit their youngest daughter, Esmeralda. They stayed with her family for six months. When her husband died in September of 2003, Inang Victoria immigrated to the U.S. At the age of 70, she began to work as a babysitter for her fellow church members. She enjoyed taking care of the little ones and treated them like her own grandchildren.
This was her way of easing the pain of being away from the rest of the family, who remained in the Philippines.
When the Life Giver, Jesus Christ, allowed her to lay down her toils and labors on this earth on September 5, 2021, she was surrounded by family, both physically at bedside and virtually through video call, and was reminded of her blessed hope in Jesus Christ. We were able to say our love and good-byes before her last breath.
Inang Victoria faithfully attended the Metropolitan SDA Church’s Wednesday Prayer Meetings, Friday Vespers, and Sabbath Worship virtually. She has not missed a single meeting. With that kind of faith in her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, she will see Him face to face at the blessed resurrection morning—when she will also be reunited with her dear husband and the rest of her family in that place where there will be no more parting days.
Her favorite hymns were: “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Sweet By And By.”
Her favorite Text was John 14:1-3 which partly says: “Let not your heart be troubled believe in God believe also in me…”
Inang, you will be greatly missed. We love you!
