Vincent M. Quartaro

Vincent M. Quartaro, of Houston, went to be with the Lord on Monday, the 30th of June 2014, at the age of 93.

He was born in Port Arthur, Texas to Catherine and Charles Quartaro, on the 26th of December 1920. He was a restaurateur for many years in the Houston area, founded the Dutch Kettle restaurant chain, and the Dutch Kettle Industrial Food Service Co.

Vincent was a member for many years in the Italy in America Club, the Italian Culture and Community Center, the Sacred Heart Society and the 50’s Club. In 1998, he was designated Cavaliere by the President of the Republic of Italy for his many contributions to the Houston Italian community.

Vincent is preceded in death by Angeline Colletti, his wife of 52 years and his son, Joseph Quartaro. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Frances Corso Quartaro; his son, Charles Quartaro and wife Mary, daughter, Mary Kathryn Whitlock and husband Carl Whitlock, son Michael Quartaro and wife Debra; sisters, Catherine Salvaggio, Mary Marino, and brothers, Anthony Quartaro and wife Leta Belle, Charles Quartaro and wife Mary Nell, Virgil Quartaro and wife Juanita; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 stepchildren and spouses; 10 step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from half-past five o’clock this afternoon until eight o’clock this evening, Wednesday, the 2nd of July, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway in Houston, where the Rosary is to commence at seven o’clock.

A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at ten o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 3rd of July, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where Msgr. James B. Anderson, is to serve as celebrant. Honored to serve as pallbearers during the services are Keith Whitlock, Jason Whitlock, David Quartaro, Matt Quartaro, Chris Quartaro, Ryan Olivé, Kyle Quartaro, and Lloyd Jones. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Carlo Corso, Joseph Corso, Kevin Howard, Paul Bishop, Jeff Toner, Brian Hines and Mathew Hines.

The Right of Committal is to follow, via an escorted cortège, in the Memorial Mission Mausoleum at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Mr. Quartaro’s name be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123-1718.
