August 10, 1927May 16, 2020

Viola Bertha Lee Mitchell graced the world with her presence on August 10. 1927 in Shepherd, Texas. To all that knew her, knew she was feisty, classy, sassy and possessed a personality that was not for the sensitive. She was born to Mr. ElzieMitchell and Ira Rachal Mitchell. She attended Dixie High School in Shepherd, Texas. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Verner Johnson Sr. and moved to Houston, Texas. To this happy union their one and only son, Verner Johnson Jr. was born.

Viola loved the Lord and demonstrated her walk as a long time member of New Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 plus years. She was a member of the Mass Choir and served on several committees. It would be remiss not to mentionthat crispy fried chicken, variety of delicious slices of cake and pies among other treats after Sunday morning services.

Viola was an employee of Osborne Elementary School in the Studewood Area, receiving several acknowledgements for her outstanding services in the Nutritional Services Department until her retirement. She loved fashion, baking and shopping. Herfavorite store to frequent was Palais Royal and enjoyed dining at Northline Mall Piccadilly’s Restaurant. Viola also loved traveling to Galveston, Texas.

To The Family of Ms. Viola, as we called her on Melbourne Street: You have my deepest sympathy in the loss of your loved one. Ms. Viola and my mom use to spend hours talking as neighbors during the 1970's. May the love and memories with Ms. Viola comfort you in the days ahead. I pray God's peace and blessings upon you.
