

Virgie L. Holland, a resident of the Wellington Assisted Living Home in Conroe, Texas died peacefully on October 27, 2015 at the age of 94. Mrs. Holland was born January 6, 1921 in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana. Prior to relocating to Conroe, Mrs. Holland was a long time resident of Houston and previously, Shreveport, Louisiana.
Mrs. Holland was a devoted homemaker and mother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening. She enjoyed Bible study, and she loved to discuss current events. She particularly enjoyed watching religious programs on Christian television and the 24-hour news channels. She had a strong faith and liked to share her beliefs and views. She was married for 56 years to James Tillman Holland, who served as an officer in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War. After World War II, they owned and operated a ranch in Colorado, where their children were born. Her husband spent most of his later career with the Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation in Shreveport and Houston, and died after a lengthy illness in June 1998.
She is survived by her son James Vance Holland of Montgomery, Texas and his wife Olivia, her daughter Nancy Ann Kutach of Houston and her husband Jerome, her brothers Harold Graves and Hoy Graves of Bastrop, Louisiana, a niece, several nephews, and other dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandson James V. (“Van”) Holland, Jr., her parents H. Grady Graves and Minnie M. Graves of Bastrop, Louisiana and her sisters Myrtle Nolan and Hattie M. Blythe of Jerome, Arkansas.
Visitation will be held in the Chapel of the Chimes at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 30, 2015. The Funeral Service will be held in the same chapel at 11:00 AM, with Rev. John C. Lockwood officiating. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of The Wellington at Conroe for their kind and considerate care during the past year.
