Virgil Lee "Jack" Snowden was born on November 26, 1931, in Houston, Texas, to Bessie and Alva Snowden. He married the love of his life, Doris Jean Prestidge, on March 26, 1952. The couple made their home in Katy in 1969 before retiring together to Pattison in 1992. Jack lost Doris in 2011 but continued to live in their beloved home until his passing.
Jack served proudly as a U.S. Marine before embarking on a lifelong career with Centerpoint Energy (formerly Houston Light & Power Company) as a lineman and crew leader for forty years. He had a passion for fishing, golf, watching sports, woodworking, and collecting vintage clocks and brass blade fans. Known to all as the "Jack of All Trades," there was simply nothing he couldn't fix.
Jack is survived by his children Beverly Winkelmann, Lynn and husband Jerry Nelms, and Donald and wife Tammy Snowden; his grandchildren Leslie and husband Daniel Taylor, John and wife Katie Nelms, Richard and wife Andrea Bregenzer, Donald Lee and wife Leah Snowden, and Daniel Snowden; his great-grandchildren Emma and Jackson Taylor, Clayton Nelms, Bayleigh Williams, and Grace and Paige Snowden; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was a cherished member of Pattison United Methodist Church. The Lord called him home peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Per his wishes, the family will hold a private graveside service.
