Virginia Markantonis

Virginia Anthony Markantonis, was born on the 27th of March, 1923, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Martha and George Anthony, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, the 6th of April, 2011.

Loved dearly by her family and friends, she willingly put the needs of others before her own without complaint. In her latter years she became the quintessential “Yiayia” not only to her own grandchildren, but to all the children she cared for and knew. She actively served her Church helping with the food preparation for the Greek Festival and other events.

She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, the late Pete Markantonis; her brother, the late John Anthony; and her son-in-law, the late Bill Argeroplos. She is survived by her son, Frank Markantonis and daughter-in-law, Cynthia; her daughter, Mary Markantonis Argeroplos; her grandchildren, Alexis and Victoria Nicole Argeroplos, Peter Tropoli and wife, Sarah, Kristen Tropoli Harper; and great grandchildren, Alexandra, Luke and Peter Tropoli and Egan, Culley, Duncan and Angus Harper.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 9th of April, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Trisagion Prayers will commence at five o’clock in the evening.

Funeral Services will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 10th of April at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Michael Lambakis, is to officiate.

The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery in Houston.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers during the services are her nephews Frank Klonis, Frank J. Markantonis and Peter Markantonis, her grandson Peter Tropoli, and her Godsons Dino Iconos and Phillip Mallios.
