Virginia was born on the 29th of August 1938 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Mary Pontello and Louis Joseph Segrato. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School (’52), St. Agnes High School (’56), and a proud Longhorn, having attended the University of Texas, where she was a member of the Omega Chapter of Alpha Phi.
Throughout her life, Virginia was active and passionately involved in many organizations and charities. She loved traveling, attending luncheons with friends, golfing, and playing bridge, which she did several times a week.
Virginia enjoyed watching and cheering for her beloved Texas Longhorns and was a long-suffering fan of all Houston’s professional sports teams, having been a season ticket holder of the Texans since their inaugural year. She loved wearing her Texas burnt orange and Texan pride sportswear, always with as much bling on her fingers and ears as possible.
Virginia adored her Chihuahua, Sue-D, who was a constant source of companionship, especially during the long months of Covid-19.
Virginia treasured time spent with family, especially during holidays and special occasions. She had a particular passion of dressing for an occasion and was known for her grand entrances. Her family remembers fondly the time she exited an airplane on Halloween in a full witches’ costume, complete with broom, and how she would arrive to Christmas Eve dinner dressed as Mrs. Claus in a floor length red velvet and fur trimmed cape.
Virginia had a gift for the written word. She loved writing poems, birthday jingles, and beautiful notes of thanks, congratulations and comfort. Her grandchildren will especially miss the personal notes she would send each of them, never missing a birthday or special occasion.
Virginia loved all things beautiful, especially her family and friends whom she cherished most.
She is united now with her beloved parents, her brother, Joe Segrato, and her loving dog, Paco.
Virginia is survived by her daughters, Mary Louise Wood Binning and her husband brad of Dallas, Renee Wood Lange and her husband Mark of Houston, and her son, William A. “Trey” Wood III and his wife Ann Marie of Houston. Virginia had nine grandchildren, Kelly Ongena and her husband Cameron, Ford Binning and his wife Caroline, Emily Grant and her husband Daniel, Mary Ilene Binning, C.C. Brollier and her husband Benjamin, Katherine Lange, Nicole Wood, Allie Lange and Richard Lange; as well as five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 13th of March, at Annunciation Catholic Church, 1618 Texas Avenue in Houston, where Rev. Paul Felix, Pastor, is to officiate.
The Rite of Committal will follow, via escorted cortege, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
