

Walter Johnson McCaine, Jr.,age 82, was born on the 21st of June 1929 in Houston, and died peacefully at his home on the 19th of July 2011. Walter attended Lamar High School and graduated from Rice University in 1951. He served in the Navy as LTJG from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War.
Walter became a CPA and joined his father’s business, McCaine Metal Company. He later founded Alloy Carbide Company, Carmac, Cerametals, and Alloy Carbide Europe, continuing to work until his time of death. For many years, Walter was active in the Spring Branch Memorial Sports Association as both a coach and as area commissioner. Walter was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and greeter. He was a member of the Randy Smith Bible Study Class. Walter’s true passion was his company, its employees, and the family atmosphere of the company which remains today. He loved nature, vacationing in Colorado, military history and he had an active interest in genealogy. Walter, a native Houstonian, developed numerous friendships throughout his life and spoke fondly of his Lamar and Rice classmates, many with whom he remained friends through the years. He took great pride in his co-workers at Alloy Carbide who were as willing as he to stand their ground in the face of hard work.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents, the late Mary Chambers McCaine and Walter Johnson McCaine, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Babin McCaine; daughter, Martha G. McCaine, and her husband John Jinishian; granddaughters, Zoe Jinishian and Erin Jinishian; daughter, Mary L. McCaine, DVM, and her husband Michael Brockmyre; son, Richard W. McCaine; and son, James B. McCaine, and his wife Teres McCaine. The family wishes to thank Janey and Robert Perez and Margaret and Fred Perez for their unbridled love and support for Walter through the years.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o’clock this evening, Friday, the 22nd of July, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock tomorrow morning, Saturday, the 23rd of July, in the sanctuary of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Dr. Tom Pace, Senior Pastor, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Hines Baker Room.
Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
