Wanda G. Baker born in West Monroe, LA, a strong and caring woman to her family, friends and community, died peacefully at the age of 74 on June 29, 2026 at her home in Houston, TX. Her inner strength carried her through ten months of lung cancer treatments and surgeries, though cancer finally overcame her strong determination to survive.
Wanda never met a stranger, always with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her bright blue eyes. Her inner light shone through to anyone she met and she was always willing to put others first. Wanda nurtured so many lifelong friendships and all were blessed to have known her.
She loved her family, both two and four legged, intensely. Wanda made many local Houston, TX friends over 22 years, especially through the Bark Park just across the street and while serving on the Huntwick Forest HOA board. She worked hard to keep our neighborhood friendly and a preferred community to live in.
Wanda will be dearly missed by her husband, Joe, to whom she was married for 44 years, as well as her two children Wanda Angelique (Windy) Fleishaker (55), Minneapolis, MN and Brian Christian Baker (42), Houston, TX.
She is survived by three siblings: Derrell (Ginger) Graham Sr, Monroe, LA; Bonnie Harrison, West Monroe, LA; Reba Stevens, Houston, TX.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Huntwick Forest community center at a date TBD.
