Wanita Lea Braband

Wanita Flick Braband – Born September 4, 1931 in Orange County, Indiana to Preston and Louella Lashbrook Flick. She has two surviving brothers Jesse Flick of Iowa Park, Texas and Dwight Flick of Waco, Nebraska. She is preceded in death by her two brothers Dwayne and Carroll Flick of French Lick, Indiana, as well as her parents Preston and Louella, also of French Lick, Indiana. She leaves behind eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grand children, four great-great grandsons and 2 great-great granddaughters and a host of nieces and nephews, friends and relatives. Nita (as most people knew her) passed away December 15, 2022.

Her young years were spent in Indiana until she met the love of her life, a tall, handsome, guitar playing Texas ironworker named Johnnie Braband. They came to Texas to raise their family Sheryll, Gerald and Ernie Braband. Johnnie and Nita were married 59 years until his death in 2007.

After the children were grown and gone she got her G.E.D., her beautician license and owned her own salon. She was tough as she and God battled colon cancer and won and had open and several other heart surgeries and procedures, as she suffered heart problems most of her adult life. She loved her grandchildren and was a 5 generation mother through great-great grandmother more than once, which made her proud.

She was young when she married Johnnie, so she grew-up with his family and loved them as her own brothers and sisters.

She leaves this thought to all her relatives and friends: “You were the wind beneath my wings.”
