William graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1951 and went on to serve in the United States Army and Air National Guard. He managed the family’s business, Allee’s Grocery, for over 40 years. William was recognized for his generosity and compassion to the community on several occasions. In 1993 he received an Outstanding Texan Award in Business from the Texas House of Representatives Black Caucus, two Appreciation Awards in ‘Recognition of his Dedication to Service in the Community’ and he was an Eyewitness News Person of the Week prior to his retirement in 1995. He also served on the Board of Directors of Houston’s Target Hunger and Port City Bank for many years. After retiring from the grocery business, William worked for twenty more years managing rental properties for Rambeck Properties.
William was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Sammie Joyce Perry and Edna Sue Allee, grandson Matthew Ellis, great-grandchildren Joseph and Gianna Kelley, and nephew Bill Perry.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Helen Allee, and their 4 daughters Susan Batla (Pat), Debra Amundsen (Tom), Denise Moon, Lisa Ellis (Paul), as well as six grandchildren, Adriane (Wade), Kristin (William), Angela (Xavier), Erica (Chris), William (Macarena), Travis, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held at Brookside Funeral home on Monday, June 1, 2026, in the Chapel of Chimes at 10:30 a.m.
