Bill was born on November 15, 1943, in Baytown, Texas, to Jessie “Mabel” (Ammann) and William A. Andel, Sr. Raised in Channelview, he graduated from Channelview High School in 1962, where he was a member of the band and enjoyed playing basketball and golf.
Following high school, Bill attended the University of Houston before joining the United States Army. He was stationed in Augsburg, Germany, where he served as a chaplain’s assistant and organist and was also a member of the Army band. His time in the military reflected a lifelong love of music and service to others.
Bill began what would become a long and rewarding career in banking when he joined First Pasadena State Bank in 1968. In 1973, he joined Channelview Bank, where he served in various roles and became well known throughout the community as “THE loan officer.” He later joined Lone Star Bank in Baytown, serving as Vice President. Following his years in banking, Bill continued helping others as a financial advisor.
On August 4, 1973, Bill married the love of his life, Lynne Johnson. Together, they made their home in Channelview and raised their two daughters, Karen and Lisa. Family was at the heart of Bill’s life. He treasured spending time with those he loved and was always ready for a road trip and the next family adventure.
Bill took great pride in his daughters and loved cheering them on at their sporting events. That enthusiasm extended well beyond his own family, as he was a longtime supporter and fan of local high school athletics. For 30 years, Bill was known throughout the school district as the “Voice of Channelview Falcon Football,” serving as the stadium announcer from 1968 to 1998.
Bill’s dedication to his community was evident in the many ways he gave his time and talents. He volunteered with the Channelview High School Athletic Booster Club, Project Graduation for the Classes of 1996 and 1999, the CHS Band Booster Club, and served for many years on the Wendel D. Ley YMCA Board. His lifelong love of music also remained an important part of his life through singing in church choirs and playing handbells.
Bill also had a special passion for Habitat for Humanity and its mission of helping families and strengthening communities. In 2007, he volunteered his time and expertise to help launch the Deconstruction division for the Northwest Harris County chapter. For nearly two decades, he continued supporting Habitat’s mission through deconstruction work and by donating materials that could be given new life while benefiting families in need. His years
of service reflected Bill’s generous spirit, strong work ethic, and genuine desire to help others.
Bill was a man of many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed fishing in Galveston Bay, model trains, woodworking, and caring for several rental properties. Whether lending a hand in his community, cheering from the sidelines, making music, or working on one of his many projects, Bill was rarely one to sit still.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Lynne (Johnson) Andel; his daughters, Karen (Andel) Watassek and her husband, Chad, and Lisa Andel; his beloved grandsons, Brady and Luke Watassek; his sister, Marilyn (Andel) Stevens and her husband, Wesley; his sister-in-law, Cynthia (Johnson) Campbell; his nieces, Carolyn Stevens, Christie (Campbell) Barker, and Colleen (Campbell) Hughes; and his nephew, Van Stevens. And no list would be complete without the apple of his eye, his sweet dog, Andy, who brought him so much joy and companionship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and William Andel; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth (Kendall) Johnson; his father-in-law, Charles Johnson; and his brother-in-law, Dr. Charles E. Campbell.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. A funeral service celebrating Bill’s life will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the same location.
