William J. Chung

William J. Chung, age 95, passed away to be with the Lord in heaven on July 14, 2026. William was a resident of Houston, Texas. He will be remembered as a faithful servant of Christ, loving family man and dedicated provider. William was a longtime member and deacon of Chinese Baptist Church, member and former president of the Chinese Professional Club and retired Engineer with Foster Wheeler Corporation. He was preceded in death by his wife Jane Lee Chung.

William was born in Canton (Guangzhou), China. He immigrated to the United States as a teenager to attend school and help his Uncle Frank at the family’s Sun Valley grocery store in Mesa, Arizona. William was drafted into the US Army to serve during the Korean War. While serving in the US Army, William was sent to the 38th parallel where he served in the POW Interrogation Unit as a translator and interrogator. Upon completion of his military service, William was afforded the GI Bill to attend Arizona State University in Tempe. While in college, he visited Houston, Texas and was introduced to his future wife Jane by his sister-in-law Pearl and brother SS. William maintained a relationship with Jane during college through writing letters. Upon graduation from ASU, William took a position as an Electrical Engineer with Foster Wheeler Corporation in Houston, Texas so that he could be with Jane. In 1957, William and Jane married and were together for 67 years until Jane’s passing. The couple resided in Houston raising a family in their Meyerland home. When not working, William enjoyed spending time with his family, vacationing, supporting his wife’s restaurant endeavors, reading the Bible and serving as a deacon, umpiring his son’s Little League Baseball games, bowling, bbq grilling, studying the stock market and singing hymns.

William was married for 67 years to Jane Lee Chung until her passing. He had two sons, daughters-in-law, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. William is survived by one sister, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was also blessed to be surrounded by many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and their respective families.

The family thanks the entire staff at Brazos Towers at Bayou Manor for their loving care during William’s time there as a resident.

A visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery Chapel on Friday July 31, 2026 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Chinese Baptist Church , 900 Brogden Rd. Houston, TX 77024 on Saturday August 1, 2026 at 10:00am.
