William Francis Goodwin Jr.

Bill was born on August 17, 1955, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to William Francis Goodwin Sr. and Mary Jane Goodwin. He spent his early years in Tularosa, New Mexico, and the family moved to Lubbock, Texas, while he was in middle school. He graduated from

Coronado High School and went on to Texas Tech University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance.

He built a career in banking that spanned 49 years, most recently leading the Private Wealth division of Bank of Texas in Houston. To his customers and to the people who worked for him, he was known as the ultimate gentleman. He led with compassion, empathy, and professionalism, and those who sat across the desk from him tended to stay with him for decades.

Bill married Leann Lawless on May 27, 1978, in Houston, and they shared 48 years together. Whatever else he accomplished, his family was the great love of his life — Leann first, and then his sons and his four grandchildren. He and Leann loved to travel with their family, and they took golf trips with their closest friends whenever they could. They were members of Pine Forest Country Club, where much of their life together happened: rounds of golf, long tables of friends, and the standing company of people they had known for years.

He and Leann were longtime members of Memorial Drive Methodist Church in Houston.

He is survived by Leann; his sons, William Francis Goodwin III (Trey) and his wife, Erika Matthews Goodwin, and Andrew Horton Goodwin (Andy); and his four grandchildren, William Francis Goodwin IV (Liam), Grace Mary Goodwin, Jackson Ray Goodwin, and Nova Goodwin. He is also survived by his sisters, Nancy Teague and her husband, Darrell; Melissa Riggan and her husband, Darrell; Beth Jolly and her husband, Mark; and Pam McLaughlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Francis Goodwin Sr. and Mary Jane Goodwin.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. A reception will follow from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
