William Harry “Bill” Beatty died at his home in Houston, on the 21st of November 2014. Born on the 15th of November 1918, in Massillon, Ohio, Bill was one of ten children born to Dwight Lowe and Ruth Siffert Beatty.
After graduating from Canton McKinley High School, Bill attended the University of Michigan for three years before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1941 where he became a pilot and flight instructor. He attained the rank of Captain in the USAF by the time of his discharge in 1945.
Bill pursued a career in commercial aviation after WWII and eventually moved from Ohio to Houston where he was employed by Vector Cable Company and Teledyne Mecca as a quality control engineer. When he retired in 1985, he put his talents into volunteering for Braeswood Interfaith Ministries as their bookkeeper while learning how to use a PC, and accumulated over 30,000 hours of service there. Always a problem solver, Bill loved to work crossword and jumble puzzles until the day he died.
His parents and a son, William Harry Beatty Jr., preceded Bill in death. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Alma Montgomery Beatty; his son, Doug Beatty of Bellaire (Iris), daughter Sandy Bingham of Cypress (Steve), and stepdaughters Sandi Cowman of Kingsland (Randy), Rhonda Rawlings of Sugar Land (Rick), and Charla Lindsey of Katy (Kent). Bill leaves behind 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, devoted neighbors and faithful caregivers.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 24th of November, at Willow Meadows Baptist Church, 4300 W. Belfort Avenue in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at half-past ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 25th of November, also at Willow Meadows Baptist Church.
The family will then gather for a private interment at Pool Cemetery in Richards, Texas.
