Bill served his country in the Vietnam War where he earned a Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooters Badge and 1st Class Badge. He worked as a probation officer, supervisor, director of personnel, and in victim services during his career at the Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department.
Bill, better known as Pawpaw, absolutely adored his family: daughter, Kristen Kelly; son-in-law, Mike; and grandchildren Miles and Hope. He spoiled his grandkids like no other with gifts and cookies every single time he saw them.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Werner, and his brother, Ronnie Werner.
On Monday, September 17, 2018, friends are invited to gather with the family during a reception at eleven o’clock in the morning at Westminster United Methodist Church, 5801 San Felipe in Houston. The funeral service will begin at noon. Interment is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Houston National Cemetery.
A charity dear to Bill’s heart was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Those desiring may offer memorial contributions at: http://fundraising.stjude.org/williamwerner
