

William was born on August 28, 1926 in Houston, TX to father William Mills Whatley and mother Tommie Dell Holcomb Whatley.
William received his high school diploma from Jefferson Davis High School, after high school he went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Colonel. He then went on to further his education by receiving a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Houston.
He went on to marry the love of his life Rita Holmes Whatley, they shared 37 wonderful years together. William worked for the Houston Fire Department for 34 years, retiring as Fire Chief. In his downtime he enjoyed reading and spending time with his family and friends.
Bill was a devoted husband and father, he smiled easily and often and he loved telling a good joke. He demonstrated his dedication to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on a daily basis to friends and strangers alike.
Bill is predeceased by his father William Mills Whatley, his mother Tommy Dell Whatley, sister Delores Whatley and his beloved wife Rita Whatley.
He is survived by children; son Monty (wife Julie) Whatley who reside in Frisco, CO and daughter Molly (husband Luke) Harper who reside in Kerrville, TX, grandchildren; grandson Colten Harper who resides in Nashville, TN, granddaughter Ellie Harper who resides in Kerrville, TX and grandson Henry Whatley who resides in Frisco, CO.
A celebration of life service for William will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2021 from 12:45 PM to 1:30 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038 with burial at Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038 to follow immediately after.
