Pastor Willie Chatman’s life journey began February 25, 1934 in Navasota, TX born to Robert Chatman and Alice Felder. He attended Mercy Seat High School in Old Washington County. Later he moved to Houston where he accepted Christ and began as an active member of Old Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the pastor O.L Holiday and later joining the Lyons Unity Baptist Church where Pastor O.C Johnson presided. He was an active member on the Usher board and discovered his calling to the ministry. He met and married the love of his life, Joyce Marie Williams in 1967. From that union, they started their family with three children Pamela, Joseph and Valencia.
His career began at Grocer’s Supply where he worked for 21 years and finished his career at Houston Independent School District for 10 years. After retiring from HISD he took on the ministry full-time by pastoring at Christian Faith Church for 41 years. He and the church were a pillar in the local community and surrounding areas. He served the entire Houston area until his health declined.
Pastor Chatman was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Chatman and Alice Felder, sister’s Betty Jean Blackmon and Bessie May Starks. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 53 years Joyce M. Chatman, daughter Pamela, son Joseph, daughter Valencia (Robert) (spiritual son) Larry Abercrombie. Brother-in-law Samuel Williams Jr, Sister-in law Melody Hebert (Mark), 7 grandchildren Cassandra, Chantal, Carneisha, Deunte, Danielle, Walter, and Faith. Two great-grand children, London and Jerzee. He also leaves to cherish his memories, sisters, Ruby Burress(Clemons) and Annie Hall. A host of nieces and nephews, friends, and church members.
