

WILMA ELAINE (HILTY) SCHLUTZ, 86, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Wilma was born on January 2, 1937, to David and Mildred (Peterson) Hilty in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. On June 25, 1955, she married John Schlutz, Jr., who preceded her in death on August 11, 1990. She and her husband, John, moved from their home in Hudson, Massachusetts to Houston, Texas in the summer of 1977.
Wilma is survived by her two sons Glenn Schlutz, and his wife, Devi and his daughter, Kaylee of Houston; Steven Schlutz, and his wife Rachel, of Katy; daughter-in-law Debi Schlutz of Cypress, Texas. Wilma was preceded in death by her son, David Schlutz of Cypress, Texas on May 15, 2016, and her brother, Carl Werner. Wilma is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces.
Wilma retired from the Clayton Foundation of Research in Houston, Texas in 2016, where she had worked for over 39 years.
Wilma was strong in her Christian faith and was an active member of the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed serving in the church choir and volunteering with the Mission Stitchers, a group responsible for raising funds annually for numerous mission groups. Prior to joining the MDUMC, Wilma was an active member of the Memorial Drive Lutheran Church.
Wilma enjoyed traveling throughout the world, especially the trip with her church to the Holy Lands. She also enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and quilting and was an avid reader.
Wilma was a kind, loving and generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by many.
