

Wilma Jean Voss passed away peacefully the 6th of January 2016 at age 96. Her husband, Arthur Marion Voss, preceded her in death following 65 years of marriage. She was a kind and loving wife, daughter, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Wilma was born in the German community of Bellville, Texas the 22nd of May 1919 to Otto and Hedwig Wietstruck. Following graduation she came to Houston to live with her brother Walter and his family while attending Massey Business School. She worked several years in Houston during which time she met husband Arthur at a community dance. They were married the 6th of November 1942 and continued to enjoy dancing all their married life. She enjoyed volunteering in church activities, caring for her family, working with Arthur at their business, Southland Hardware, traveling and sitting with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by brothers Walter Wietstruck and Alvin Wietstruck and by sisters Hilda Reinicke and Mercedes Warmke. She is survived by daughters Pat Voss O’Brien, husband Marty of Houston, TX., Beverly Voss Hogan, husband Ron of Atlanta, GA., grandchildren Tracey McDowell, Kelly Simpson, Christy Ellis, Kathleen Maddux, Jenny O’Brien and Michael O’Brien. She leaves nine great-grandchildren: Lucy Voss, Jane Charlotte and Anna Katherine McDowell in Chicago; Eva Catherine and Reid Hogan Simpson in Winston-Salem; John Patrick and Parker McKinley Ellis in Atlanta; and Braden Andrew and Teagan Grace Maddux in Houston.
The family would like to thank all the ladies from Brookdale Senior Living Companion Service who provided loving and compassionate care for Wilma. They were a blessing.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Charles Ellis, Michael Maddux, Peter McDowell, Michael O’Brien, and Bradley Simpson.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Saturday, the 23rd of January, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service, in celebration of Wilma’s life, will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 24th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons where Rev. Jeff Powers, Senior Pastor of Westminster United Methodist Church, is to officiate.
