Wilma Louise Williams

On October 13, 1931 the fifth child of Reverend Henry Strait and Sister Salonia Beatrice Roberts Strait was born in Fairbanks, Texas. They named her Stasha Wilma. She grew up here and attended Fairbanks Colored Elementary School, Harper Jr. High School and Booker T. Washington. She sang in the Glee Club at Harper and Booker T. Washington High Schools. She united with Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age under the pastorship of her father Reverend H. B. Strait and sung in the choir. She participated in the 4 - H Club, was a member of the Eastern Stars, and had her own singing group; composed of Mamie Lee Strait, Katy Kellum, Tonya Stewart and Robert Williams. Working with the 4 - H Club, her main interest was sewing. She learned to make beautiful garments and handkerchiefs. She also made fabulous hats. Under the pastorship of Reverend B. Blair, she and Sister Revada Allen Jones worked several years with the Youth Choir of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church. She worked for the County Commissioner's Court Precinct 3 until she retired. In 1950, she married Brother James Edward Williams. To this union five children were born; James Lester, John Leslie, Earnest Bruce, Bertha Beatrice, and Robert Albert. James Lester (Sonny), John Leslie (Petelo), and Robert Albert preceded her in death. She is survived by two children Earnest Bruce Williams and Bertha Gant; four sisters R. A. Strait, Bertha Strait Lee, Claudia Strait, and Jo Marie Brown (Tit); a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, relatives, and friends. Services for Ms. Williams will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012, with a visitation from 10:00 - 11:50AM. Funeral Services to follow beginning at 12Noon. Services to be held at Greater Macedonia Baptist Church, 5510 Sam Houston Pkwy. West, Houston, Texas 77041. Interment: Paradise North
