On April 12, 1941, Cleo Lias and Will Biggom, welcomed the blessing of twins! Willie Jean and Wilmer Lee made their arrival in the historic community of Hockley, Texas where they were lovingly nurtured and schooled. They were introduced to all aspects and disciplines necessary for survival in the “real world.”
At the tender age of 13, Wilmer ventured into the work world blazing an employment trail unheard of for young men his age…from many years in the rice fields to more years in the rice mills. He later worked at Strand Steel and other companies in the steel industry.
The next trail was blazed from his heart straight into the heart of Betty Locksey, after meeting her at his sister Dorothy’s house in Houston, Texas. On August 20, 1965, they made God and each other a promise, which resulted in 55 years of unconditional love and committed endurance. This union produced three children: Lee Eric, Derrick Lynn and Rhonda Gail; daddy’s girl and the apple of both his eyes! (It is reported that Wilmer only spanked Rhonda one time; but this was not the case with his boys.)
Wilmer was a family man in every sense of the word. He continually shared his life experiences and wisdom while making sure his house and loved ones were provided for and knew where he stood on various topics. He was his own man…with his own style…with his own quirks…with his own vocabulary and his very own special interests…namely birds and squirrels. His investment, attention and protection of God’s creatures is a glimpse into his caring heart. He blazed more than one trail at the Biggom home which provided a sanctuary for his adopted audience.
On September 17, 2017, Wilmer demonstrated his faith in Jesus Christ by way of water baptism under the guidance of Pastor Leroy Henderson, Jr., of House of Praise Worship Center, settling the question of his salvation and where he would spend eternity.
On May 3, 2021, at 6 p.m., after his wife’s final kiss and prayer, Wilmer blazed his final trail as he answered our heavenly father’s call. He was a man of strength, who leaves a rich legacy that will be cherished.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; twin sister, Willie Jean Biggom; Rosie Evans and brothers: George Williams and Sgt. A.B. White.
He leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy: his devoted wife, Betty Biggom; two sons, Lee Eric Biggom and Derrick Lynn Biggom (Katey); one daughter Rhonda Gail Biggom; six grandchildren: Alicia, EJ, JaMarcus, Justin, Ashley, Jazlynn and two great-grandchildren: Kaiden and Khalil and one sister, Dorothy Price of Houston, Texas. He also leaves numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who all are the better for having crossed his trail of love but are too numerous to list.
2 Corinthians 5:8
“We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” NIV
