Wilmer accepted the belief and teachings of Christ at a young age as he attended First Baptist Church under the guidance of his Grandfather Rev. Wilmer S. Washington Sr.
Wilmer graduated from Jack Yates High School in June 1966 and furthered his education at Southwestern Business College for a year. After completing his education, Wilmer enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served 8 years as a Law Clerk. He proudly devoted his time in service to the Vietnam War in Guam and Bangkok, among other times of conflict. During his time in service he achieved the rank of Sergeant and received the Good Conduct Medal.
Following his years of service in the Air Force, he attended Houston Community College and obtained a Certificate of Transportation Management. Wilmer went to work for the United States Postal Service as a Postal Clerk for many years, until he retired.
Wilmer was a father to Tavonia Carr.
Wilmer never met a stranger. He would strike up a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed traveling, shopping, talking on the phone with friends and family, jazz clubs, and his ultimate favorite the penny parlor. He had a passion for fashion and hats, and loved children. Wilmer was outspoken, kind, giving, and passionate about life.
Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer II and Palestine Washington; and sister, Cynthia Henry
