Mr. Szeto was born in Guangdong, China on November 1st, 1924. He spent a majority of his childhood in Guangdong and was trained as a chef in Guangzhou. He married Chun Chi Lee. They later moved to Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong, Mr. Szeto worked as a chef and a real estate agent. Together with his wife, they raised five children: Betty, Victor, Kitty, Oliver, and Agnes.
In 1978, the entire family immigrated to Houston, Texas. Mr. Szeto started a family restaurant business, Yet Wah, in Houston where the whole Szeto family contributed. The restaurant customers enjoyed Mr. Szeto’s home cooking and friendly service. Mr. Szeto retired in 1989. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, singing, mahjong and watching the Houston Rockets.
Mr. Szeto accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior prior to his passing.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother and stepmother, and later by his son Oliver Szeto and son in-law Albert Leigh.
Left to cherish his memories are his eldest daughter, Betty Sham, with her husband, Foo Sham; his son, Victor Szeto, with his wife, LayChoo Tan; his second daughter, Kitty Zhou, with her husband, Jimmy Zhou; and his youngest daughter, Agnes Leigh. He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Belinda Sham Araujo with her husband, Alex Araujo; Joyce O Sullivan with her husband Eoghan O Sullivan; Ariel Leigh; Elaine Zhou; Rachel Szeto; Elton Zhou; Andrew Leigh; Jonathan Szeto; A. J. Leigh; Daniel Szeto; and Emily Szeto. He is lovingly remembered by his great grandchildren, Claire and Avery Legaspi and Susie and Rhys Araujo. He will be missed by his sister Helen Joe, and her husband Edward Joe, as well as his many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Mr. Szeto will held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home Wednesday August 17, 2022 at 10am 12800 Westheimer Rd. Houston, Texas 77077. A committal service will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
