

Yoshi was born in Japan on June 18, 1935. He was very honored to become a naturalized citizen of the United States in 2009.
Yoshi is survived by his devoted wife Valerie of 52 years, his beloved son Justin Kawashima and wife Lisa, his precious daughter Lorna and husband Dylan, his three granddaughters Adrienne, Deirdre, and Cameron Kawashima. They were dearly beloved by Yoshi whom they called Jiji, which is Japanese for grandad.
A graduate of Tokyo University, Yoshi held a Bachelor of Arts in Law. He attended Columbia University in New York and later participated in the Advance Management Program at the Harvard School of Business in Boston.
Yoshi started his career with Mitsui in 1960 and worked in London, Tokyo, Osaka, Houston and New York. He retired from Mitsui in 1997,after serving as Executive Vice President for four years. He then served as Chairman and CEO of Reichhold Inc. until 2002. He also served on the Board of Georgia Gulf between 2003-2009. In addition to that Yoshi served as Honorary Chairman of ITC and was President of YK Resources.
Yoshi served on the Board of Directors of the Mitsui USA Foundation and The International Advisory Board of Texas A&M University. He was also a member of the Founders Club where he enjoyed meeting with his friends.
He served with great pleasure on the Board of the Walter Hoving Home in Garrison, NY, which is a faith based substance abuse treatment center for young ladies.
One of Yoshi’s greatest enjoyments was playing golf with his friends. Also once a month he enjoyed having lunch with The Retired Men’s Club.
Yoshi truly loved his friends, his business friends and personal friends, his church friends and dearly loved his family and most of all, his Lord Jesus Christ, who died for his sins.
