Zanaida Marullo Leaman, 94, of Bellaire, TX was called home to our Lord on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. She was born in New Orleans, LA on June 11, 1919 to Zanaida and Anthony Marullo. When she was 13, her family relocated to Galveston, TX. She met Eli Leaman when she was in high school and they married on July 3, 1938. They moved to Bellaire, TX in 1952. They were married for 58 years and raised 6 children.
Zanaida was very active at Holy Ghost Church for many years. With kids at Holy Ghost for over 20 years, she gladly drove many carpools and field trips. She volunteered serving lunch at the school. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, and her great pleasure was quilting with a group of wonderful friends every Wednesday for many, many years. These incredible women called their Wednesday sessions “therapy”. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She shared her cooking skills with all of them, but no one will ever make a lasagna or German Chocolate cake like hers.
She is survived by her children, Philip Leaman and his wife, Margaret; Christopher Leaman and his wife, Carla; Edwin
Marullo and his wife, Kathy, Zanaida Leaman Akins and her husband, Paul, her daughters-in-law, Shirley Leaman and Carolyn Bouldin; 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eli; and her sons, Robert and Richard, her parents, brother and sister and two nephews.
