Zenaida “Heddy” Andrada Cowart, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, the 12th of October 2018, in Houston, TX surrounded by her husband, Floyd Sanford Cowart and daughter, Anne-Marie Cowart Favoriti. She was 78 years of age. Heddy was born on the 23rd of April 1940, in Ivisan, Capiz, Philippines to Martiniano Andrada and Ana “Nancy” Andrada.
Heddy earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Zamboanga General Hospital School of Nursing in Zamboanga, Philippines in 1961. In 1962, she was invited to Houston, Texas as part of a 2-year Nursing Exchange Program for the Methodist Hospital where she began her lifelong career as an Operating Room Nurse. She also worked many years in the operating room at Diagnostic Center Hospital and Hermann Outpatient Surgery Center where she met many of her lifelong friends.
Heddy dedicated her life to the care of others. She was very passionate about nursing and viewed it not as a job but as a calling. It was this passion and dedication to the care of every patient, and every person who she met, that earned her much respect and admiration from her family, friends and community. She was completely devoted and fiercely loyal to her entire family. She never hesitated to help out a family member in their times of need.
Heddy also enjoyed and shared her love of gardening, traveling and cooking with all who knew her. In her home garden, she had a special interest in growing roses, orchids and citrus trees of many varieties. She loved fishing and crabbing and enjoyed many trips to Alaska with her husband. She was an excellent cook, with many favorite recipes requested by family and friends. Heddy had a great sense of style, an infectious smile, and a warm, hospitable, kind heart. She is deeply loved and will forever be missed by all who were lucky to have had her in their lives.
She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Floyd Kenny Cowart; her parents; sister, Ana “Annie” Sy; and brother, Antonio Andrada.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Floyd Sanford Cowart of Houston, TX; her daughter, Anne-Marie Cowart Favoriti (Massimo) and grandchildren Nicolas and Catherine, of Bellaire, TX. She is also survived by her three brothers, Hernando Andrada, Ruben Andrada (Rose), Blas Andrada (Maricel); and her two sisters, Emily Ebarle and Marisa Castro (Roberto).
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 18th of October, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will commence at eight o’clock.
The Mass of Christian Burial will commence at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 19th of October, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Rev. Al Sinasac, C.S.B., will serve as celebrant.
The Rite of Committal is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
