A son of Petro and Olha Dub, Zenon was born on April 24, 1937 in Tsvitova, Ukraine.
After surviving a Soviet Gulag forced labor camp in Siberia as a child, Zenon grew up in Henrykow, Poland, and eventually immigrated to the United States through Canada. In New York he met and married Olga Puzyk, who loved and cared for him for 44 years, up until his last hours.
Zenon was a do-it-yourself man of many skills and talents, at various times working as an electro-mechanic, a building maintenance manager, and a property renovator and owner.
He was a true Ukrainian patriot with a passion for singing, reading, philosophizing, and debating. He also enjoyed helping his family, friends, and fellow Ukrainians with their vehicle and home repairs as well as home improvement projects. He is survived by his three children - Nadija, Luba, and Nestor, and grandchildren - Sophia, Vira, and Lev.
Zenon’s defining legacy will always be his devotion to building and developing a strong Ukrainian community, wherever he lived. It is through his activism and efforts in promoting Ukraine’s history and culture that he was able to make a positive impact in the lives of so many Ukrainians in Houston and beyond. This legacy will be proudly carried on through Zenon’s children, and with hope - his grandchildren.
After surviving the Stalinist communist regime and celebrating Ukraine’s independence in 1991, Zenon, in his last months of life, was saddened once again to witness his fellow Ukrainians having to fight and die for their freedom against russia.
Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the Dub family respectfully asks that you consider donating to HTX4Ukraine (www.htx4ukraine.org/donate, attn: 'Zenon Dub Memorial'), an organization his children co-founded, with the core mission of protecting and saving lives in Ukraine. Tactical medical equipment and combat trauma supplies will be purchased with your kind donations in Zenon’s memory, to, one last time, allow him to help his beloved Ukraine.
A visitation for Zenon will be held Friday, July 8, 2022 from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM, a Panakhyda Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home - Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77068.
