John Stanley Zadrozny, 94, of Spring Hill, Florida passed away Monday, September 9, 2013. He was born to Bronislaw and Ida (Czajewski) Zadrozny on July 13, 1919, in Derby, Connecticut. He grew up on Morgan Avenue in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, where he and his family were members of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church. In Greenpoint he met, courted, and married Agnes Cecilia Ackerly, who grew up on Beadel Street. They were married at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church on September 4, 1943.
John went to night school while he worked and studied during the day; at one point he held a job in a pie factory. For several years they lived with Agnes’ mother in the small Beadel Street house while they worked and saved for the future. On June 29, 1945, John graduated from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn with his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. John and Agnes moved to Valley Stream, on Long Island, NY, where they built a home in 1952. During the years they lived on Long Island they attended Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne. He worked as an electrical engineer for Underwriter’s Laboratories until his retirement in 1983. He and Agnes retired to Spring Hill, Florida, where they made many friends, and lived happily during their senior years. During their retirement they enjoyed 47 cruise trips to destinations all over the world. They have been lovingly and respectfully cared for during the last several years at The Residence at Timber Pines assisted living facility.
John is survived by his devoted wife of seventy years, Agnes Zadrozny; their daughter, Ann Marie Morton; son, John Joseph Zadrozny; and daughter Bernadette Zadrozny. He leaves behind two grandsons: Sean Andrew Morton and Kevin Crosby Morton. He was predeceased by his parents in 1965; his sister, Anne A. Ott, in 1975; and his cousin, George Wajdowicz (with whom he was raised, and who was like a brother to him) in 1969.
John was an inspiration to many, especially in his love, patience, and devotion to Agnes over these last years, as they coped with her Alzheimer’s dementia. He will be missed by everyone who knew him, but most especially by his family. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am Friday, September 13, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Spring Hill. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Grace Memorial Funeral Home, 16931 U.S. 19, Hudson, Florida, 34667, Phone: 727-863-5471. www.gracefuneralhomehudson.com
